No Executive Order required There is now a pedestrian island at 10th and Pike

Seattle, WALocal News

Seattle’s new pedestrian island at 10th and Pike is part of the Safe Streets for All program, which encompasses 80 planned safety upgrades citywide. The project is supported by a $25. 6 million federal grant and a $1. 55 billion transportation levy approved by voters in 2024. Upcoming enhancements will include pedestrian signal upgrades and safety projects at key intersections such as Broadway and Pike, and Harvard and Pike.

Officials aim to significantly reduce collisions in these busy areas, emphasizing pedestrian safety in the Pike/Pine nightlife district. The initiative also includes planning for a new “12th Ave S Safety Corridor” and improvements to the Safe Routes to School Program. These upgrades align with the city’s Vision Zero commitment to eliminate traffic-related fatalities. Recent projects, including new crosswalk markings at Harvard and E Olive Way, further highlight the city’s focus on enhancing pedestrian safety. The community has actively supported these initiatives, reflecting a strong desire for safer streets amid increasing traffic concerns.
