Car crashes into University Place restaurant twice in failed towing attempt

Seattle, WALocal News

A maroon car crashed into the UP Pho and Teriyaki restaurant in University Place twice on July 30 after the driver abandoned it following a failed towing attempt. Surveillance footage indicated the vehicle had been parked at a nearby AutoZone since the previous day, where the driver informed employees of its malfunction. At approximately 5:15 a. m. , a white Honda Pilot attempted to tow the maroon car, but the tow strap broke, leading to the vehicle rolling down and crashing into the restaurant.

A second attempt at towing resulted in another collision with the restaurant. The driver and a female passenger abandoned the maroon car after it got stuck along a retention wall. University Place Deputies are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run and are asking for public assistance in identifying those involved. The investigation highlights the dangers associated with improper towing practices. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward to aid in resolving the case.
