Police Suspect in First Hill drug squat murder arrested
Ayub Mohamed, 28, was arrested on Wednesday by Seattle police in connection with the April homicide of David Chuyeshkov at a First Hill drug squat. Police identified Mohamed as a suspect shortly after the April 2 shooting, which left Chuyeshkov dead from a gunshot wound to the torso and injured another man. The incident occurred in a unit of the Tuscany Apartments, which had become a hotspot for drug-related activities. Following his detention for a minor violation, Mohamed was booked into King County Jail, where he faces multiple charges including murder but has not yet been formally charged. This case underscores the persistent issues with drug squats in the area, prompting police to request public assistance in locating suspects.
In a separate incident, the Seattle Fire Department reported a two-alarm fire in the Central District that damaged several homes and displaced residents, although no injuries were reported. The fire response involved over 100 personnel and was brought under control by 3 AM. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, further complicating the challenges facing local authorities.
