2 structures destroyed by wildfire near Brinnon, evacuation orders issued

A wildfire northwest of Brinnon in Jefferson County destroyed two structures and prompted Level 3 evacuation orders for nearby residents on Tuesday. The Belgian fire ignited around 2:10 p. m. on Belgian Drive, spreading to nearby residences and brush. East Jefferson Fire Rescue reported that the fire was fueled by heavy timber and airborne embers, burning an estimated 10 acres by 6 p.

m. Officials confirmed that the structures destroyed included an abandoned home and an unoccupied travel trailer. Evacuation orders affected around 35 homes, with emergency responders urging residents to avoid the area to facilitate firefighting efforts. The Brinnon Community Center opened as an evacuation shelter, and the American Red Cross dispatched volunteers to support residents. State resources were mobilized to assist local firefighting efforts at the request of the Brinnon Fire Department.

Power along Dosewallips Road was temporarily shut off until firefighters contained the blaze, restoring it around 7 p. m.
