Boston Teamsters join Republic Services pickets in WA trash service is delayed a 2nd day

Seattle, WALocal News

On July 9, 2025, trash collectors at Republic Services in Thurston County began a strike, advocating for better pay and working conditions. This labor action has resulted in delays for trash collection services in neighboring King and Snohomish counties, impacting many residents. Elizabeth Norgren, a local, voiced her frustration over missed pickups, particularly as she prepared for a family event. Teamsters Local No. 25 members have joined the picket lines in support, although operations continue at some facilities.

Republic Services has acknowledged the delays and referred to a company statement while expressing its commitment to resuming contract negotiations. The company has not provided specifics on the negotiations, leading to uncertainty among affected residents. Will Zekus, a heavy equipment operator, warned of potential sanitation issues if the strike continues. The next negotiation meeting is scheduled for the end of July, as the community awaits a resolution.
