Queer the Vote candidates forum this week on Capitol Hill
The Queer Power Alliance is set to host the Queer the Vote candidates forum on July 8 from 5:00 to 7:30 PM at the Massive Club in Seattle. This event will feature 27 candidates competing for key local positions, including City Council and Mayor, as the primary election nears on August 5. Voters will receive ballots in the mail this month, which must be submitted by 8 PM on election day. The top two candidates from each race will move forward to the General Election in November. The forum highlights the significance of LGBTQ+ representation in local governance and encourages community engagement in the electoral process.
Confirmed candidates include Eddie Lin and Ry Armstrong, among others. The event is supported by various local organizations, emphasizing a collective effort to uplift queer voices in politics. Additionally, the incumbent City Council president is proposing a new sales tax to fund drug counseling services, showcasing the ongoing discussions around public safety and equity in Seattle.
