Daniel Jolliffe, 53, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a shootout with police during a domestic violence incident at a Broadmoor apartment on June 20, 2025. Jolliffe attacked a woman, who was shot in the back and treated at Harborview, where she survived her injuries. Police body camera footage captured the exchange of gunfire between Jolliffe and responding officers, who faced challenges in rescuing the victim while being targeted. After the shootout, law enforcement secured the area for hours before finding Jolliffe dead inside the apartment. Jolliffe had a history of violence, having been convicted of murder in 1993 for shooting two men and serving half of a 27-year sentence before his release.

The police shooting investigation continues, leading to Officer Leonardo Bassi Rodriguez's administrative leave as per department policy. Chief Shon Barnes, newly confirmed by the Seattle City Council, aims to stabilize the Seattle Police Department amid ongoing community safety concerns. His initiatives include community engagement forums to address public safety issues, particularly in areas affected by street disorder and mental health crises.
