Scott and Rinck holding Crisis Care Center Townhall on Capitol Hill
Rep. Shaun Scott and Seattle City Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck are set to host a town hall on July 7 to rally support for a mental health Crisis Care Center at Broadway and Union. The facility is part of a $1. 25 billion initiative by King County's Department of Community and Human Services aimed at enhancing mental health services across the region. The $50 million proposal has faced opposition from local businesses who fear it could exacerbate crime and public drug use in the area.
Scott's social media post emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, “Come ready to have a good time at Vermillion with community leaders who support an inclusive Seattle. ” The former Polyclinic site is chosen for its adequate space and suitable zoning for healthcare services. If approved by the King County Council, the center could open as early as 2027. Critics, including local business leader Molly Moon Neitzel, have urged the county to consider alternative locations. Future opportunities for public feedback are anticipated as community councils work with the county to facilitate discussions.
