Halal bakery and grocery in Kent damaged by fire investigation underway

Seattle, WALocal News

A fire at Al Rayahin Bakery and Grocery in Kent early Sunday morning caused significant damage, prompting a response from Puget Sound Fire. Firefighters used circular saws to cut through metal fencing to access the burning buildings. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but a family member of the owner suspects an unhoused person may have started it. Abdullah, the family member, highlighted ongoing crime and homelessness issues in the neighborhood, mentioning that other local businesses have also faced break-ins. The extensive damage has left the bakery and adjacent smoke shop in a precarious state.

Fire officials are working diligently to determine the fire's origin and whether it may be classified as arson. Local authorities have been alerted to the broader implications of crime and safety in the area. As the investigation unfolds, community members remain concerned about the impact of homelessness on local businesses.
