Northbound I-5 reopens in Tukwila after person shot in leg

A shooting on northbound Interstate 5 in Tukwila caused all lanes to close for over an hour on Friday afternoon. The Washington State Department of Transportation first reported the incident at 1:40 p. m. , blocking the HOV lane near State Route 518. One individual was shot in the leg, with gunfire traced back to a vehicle.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson confirmed that investigators are currently examining how the incident occurred. Traffic resumed shortly before 3:10 p. m. , after a six-mile backup was reported by 2:45 p. m.

Authorities assured the public of their safety, stating there was no ongoing threat from suspects. Such incidents raise concerns about highway safety and the need for increased vigilance among motorists. Investigators continue to seek further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
