TikTok helps Seattle pets find homes

Seattle, WALocal News

Seattle Humane has successfully harnessed TikTok to boost pet adoptions by crafting engaging and emotional videos. Since its TikTok debut in 2021, the Bellevue-based shelter has experienced several viral moments that effectively showcase the stories of animals in need. One standout video highlighted a senior Chihuahua mix, which resonated widely and resulted in the dog's adoption shortly after its release. Social media director Brandon Macz noted the necessity of embracing a playful, "goofy" approach to connect with viewers. TikTok's Ara Yoo acknowledged the tangible impact of these efforts on community engagement and adoption rates.

The shelter's strategy reflects a broader trend where nonprofits leverage social media to reach diverse audiences. Data shared by TikTok indicated significant audience engagement, emphasizing the platform's role in connecting pets with potential adopters. Seattle Humane plans to produce more content featuring pets with compelling backstories and quirky narratives to sustain this momentum.
