Groovy Capitol Hill mushroom coffee joint Wunderground adds founder of one of Capitol Hills most popular cafes

Seattle, WALocal News

Ericka Burke has returned to the Capitol Hill food scene, partnering with Jody Hall at Wunderground Cafe to redefine the coffeehouse experience. The cafe, which specializes in adaptogenic mushroom coffee, will celebrate its new direction with a Pride rave on Saturday. Wunderground Cafe opened in fall 2021 in the former location of Hall's E Pike Cupcake Royale, which has since downsized. Burke has faced challenges in her career, including the abrupt closure of Chop Shop due to underfunding and construction disruptions. Her most enduring establishment, the Volunteer Park Cafe, was sold in 2020 after 13 years of operation.

The cafe aims to integrate the health benefits of mushrooms with traditional coffee culture, promoting a menu designed to nourish patrons. Wunderground Cafe is located at 1111 E Pike and emphasizes community engagement. The upcoming celebration reflects the cafe's commitment to local culture and inclusivity.
