Washington drivers warned of fake DMV texts

Seattle, WALocal News

Washington officials warn residents of a surge in scam texts impersonating the "Washington Department of Motor Vehicles" concerning unpaid tickets. These deceptive messages pressure recipients with threats of legal action and license suspensions. Thomas Charlson, a spokesperson for the Department of Licensing, noted the widespread nature of these scams. He emphasized that Washington operates a Department of Licensing, not a DMV, and that residents should not expect texts about fines. The agency advises recipients to delete the messages and report them as junk to prevent potential fraud.

This situation highlights the ongoing issue of identity theft and scams targeting citizens. Such scams can undermine public trust in legitimate government communications. Residents must remain vigilant and informed to protect themselves from fraudulent activities.
