Thieves push cement barriers through Maple Valley pot shop to get inside

SeaTac, WALocal News

In a shocking incident, thieves smashed into Goobie's Doobies, a cannabis shop in Maple Valley, by pushing a cement barrier through the store's entrance, resulting in an estimated $10,000 in damages. The brazen robbery, caught on security cameras, highlights the growing trend of smash-and-grab crimes affecting local businesses, with this being the third such incident at Goobie's Doobies in just four years. General manager Tea expressed disbelief at the audacity of the criminals, who managed to steal a significant amount of merchandise despite newly installed heavy bollards intended to deter such actions. The security footage revealed the chaos that ensued as the thieves rushed in, even without masks, making it easier for authorities to identify them. In response to the rising crime rates, local officials are promoting a state-funded security assessment program aimed at helping cannabis retailers improve their security measures.

Tea plans to take advantage of this program in hopes of preventing future incidents. She also urges members of the community to assist in locating her stolen merchandise, which is distinctly marked. The incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced security in light of increasing thefts in the area.
