U-Haul full of mammoth tusks, other rare items stolen from SeaTac hotel

SeaTac, WALocal News

The theft of a U-Haul truck filled with rare and valuable items, including mammoth tusks worth over $50,000, has left owners Doug and Olga Borland in shock and financial distress. The truck was stolen from a SeaTac hotel parking lot on May 30, affecting nearly half a year’s worth of inventory for the couple, who import unique artifacts from around the world. Surveillance video captured the thieves breaking into the locked truck, demonstrating their knowledge of how to bypass security measures. The tusks are particularly significant as they represent some of the only legal ivory in the world due to their fossilized nature. Local law enforcement has noted that U-Haul trucks are often targeted for their potential high-value contents.

Sgt. Jason Houck advised that drivers should take extra precautions when parking moving vans, especially in hotel lots. In response to the incident, the couple is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information leading to the recovery of their stolen items. The investigation is ongoing, with the suspect's vehicle identified as a white Nissan Versa.
