Fernando Rocha, a theater manager at Juanita High School in Kirkland, Washington, has been detained by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to the Lake Washington School District. Community members expressed shock, recognizing Rocha's vital role in the school's performing arts program. The district confirmed they are working to provide necessary employment documentation while closely monitoring the situation.

Senator Manka Dhingra highlighted the importance of due process for all individuals, stating Rocha is an asylum seeker and a valued community member. Her office is collaborating with Congresswoman Suzan DelBene's staff to support Rocha during this uncertain time. Rocha's attorney noted he is legally in the U. S. and has never faced arrest.

This detention raises concerns about immigration policies affecting local educators and community figures. The district and local officials are actively seeking to ensure that Rocha's rights are upheld.
