Public Review DEIR: GPA and PD Rezoning for the Coleman and Hedding Commercial Development Project
The City of San José has made available a Draft Environmental Impact Report (Draft EIR) for the Coleman and Hedding Commercial Development Project, which includes a proposed General Plan Amendment and Planned Development Rezoning. The project seeks to change the land use designation from Open Space and Parkland to Combined Industrial Commercial on approximately 11. 37 acres of city-owned land. This initiative covers seven parcels and two street vacations and raises concerns over potential significant environmental impacts, including effects on biological and cultural resources, greenhouse gas emissions, hazardous materials, and noise. The Draft EIR is now open for public review, and stakeholders are encouraged to submit written comments within the 45-day public comment window, which runs from August 2 to September 16, 2024.
Interested parties can access the Draft EIR and related documents online, as well as at various local libraries and the Department of Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement. The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) necessitates this notice to inform the public about the environmental considerations associated with the project, including the presence of hazardous materials sites. Residents with questions or comments can reach out to Nhu Nguyen via email or through regular mail. The project is situated in Council District 6, highlighting its importance to local governance and planning efforts.
