Hayward council expected to appoint library director Addleman as interim city manager

San Francisco, CALocal News

Jayanti Addleman, the director of library services, will assume the role of interim city manager in Hayward on July 1. She takes over from Michael Lawson, who has been temporarily managing the city since May 20, after the City Council placed Ana Alvarez on paid administrative leave without providing a reason. Mayor Mark Salinas announced that the City Council intends to appoint Addleman at a meeting this coming Tuesday. Addleman has been part of the city's executive team since 2019, during which she oversaw the opening of a new downtown library and expanded services and partnerships. Her interim role is expected to last until at least the end of 2025, aiming to ensure continuity in leadership.

The council has not elaborated on the circumstances leading to Alvarez's leave, which raises questions about the city's management dynamics. Lawson will return to his role as city attorney once Addleman assumes her position. This leadership change comes at a time when local governance is under scrutiny, emphasizing the need for stable and effective management.
