Vallejo Kidnapper Matthew Muller Pleads Guilty In 32-Year-Old Cold Case In Sacramento County

San Francisco, CALocal News

Matthew Muller, 48, pleaded guilty Wednesday to a 1993 kidnapping and sexual assault that occurred in Folsom, California, when he was just 16 years old. This plea adds to his existing 40-year federal sentence for the 2015 kidnapping of Denise Huskins, a case that garnered significant media attention and was featured in the Netflix documentary “American Nightmare. ” Muller admitted to several prior crimes in correspondence with Seaside Police Chief Nick Borges, expressing a desire to contribute to law enforcement efforts to prevent future offenses. Among his admissions are two home invasions in 2009, where he targeted women living alone, tying them up and threatening violence. His confessions have resulted in additional life sentences, as he has been extradited to Santa Clara County for sentencing in those cases.

Muller claims to have undergone a transformation in prison, identifying as a born-again Christian. He has yet to face prosecution for another case in Contra Costa County, raising questions about the extent of his criminal history. The ongoing revelations from Muller highlight the complexities of addressing long-standing cold cases.
