Mayor Lurie, Supervisors Announce Legislation to Support Neighborhoods, Small Businesses with Five New Entertainment Zones

San Francisco, CALocal News

Mayor Daniel Lurie announced plans for five new entertainment zones in San Francisco to bolster economic recovery and support local businesses. The legislation, co-sponsored by Supervisors Danny Sauter, Matt Dorsey, and Jackie Fielder, aims to enhance community engagement and foot traffic in neighborhoods like Cole Valley and Front Street. Mayor Lurie noted that these zones have proven effective in fostering connections among residents and boosting sales for local businesses. The designated areas for the new zones include Valencia Street, Pier 39, and Yerba Buena Lane, among others. This initiative builds on prior efforts to streamline business operations, such as the First Year Program that waives fees for startups.

Additionally, the city has introduced PermitSF to simplify permitting processes. According to Scott Rowitz, executive director of the Yerba Buena Partnership, entertainment zones serve as economic and social engines, enhancing the vibrancy of local neighborhoods. This legislation reflects a broader strategy to revitalize San Francisco’s economy through community-focused initiatives.
