Walnut Creek selects contractor for massive overhaul of Heather Farm Park swim center
Walnut Creek City Council approved $2. 292 million for the first phase of a new aquatic and community center at Heather Farm Park. Approximately $2 million will be funded through Measure O, which voters passed in 2022 to support local infrastructure projects. The new facility will include an 18-lane, 50-meter competitive lap pool and a 25-meter recreational pool. Construction is slated to start later this month and conclude in the fall, while the existing community center and swim center will remain open.
The project aims to modernize facilities that date back to the 1960s. Assistant public works director Mike Vickers indicated that a subcommittee will be formed to gather community input on future uses for the space. Excess soil from the lake expansion will be used to enhance the surrounding area, benefiting local wildlife. The city expects the new center to serve not only recreational needs but also as an emergency operations center.
