Sunnyvale appoints Daniel Pistor as new Department of Public Safety chief

Daniel Pistor will officially take over as Chief of the Department of Public Safety in Sunnyvale on Sunday, succeeding Phan Ngo, who retired in April. Pistor, who has served as Deputy Chief of Fire Services, was chosen after a national recruitment process. City Manager Tim Kirby emphasized Pistor's extensive 22-year tenure in the department, noting the respect he commands from colleagues. Before joining Sunnyvale, Pistor worked with the Honolulu Police Department on narcotics investigations. His leadership experience includes roles as K9 Officer and SWAT captain, and he played a key role in the department’s COVID-19 emergency response.

Pistor intends to focus on building community trust and maintaining transparency in public safety efforts. He stated, "Community trust is the cornerstone of public safety. " This appointment reflects the city's commitment to effective leadership in public safety.
