Mayor Lurie Moves to Create Interim and Transitional Housing for Survivors of Domestic Violence
Mayor Lurie announced a $30 million initiative to develop safe housing for low-income San Franciscans, focusing on survivors of domestic violence. This move is part of a broader strategy to tackle homelessness and improve behavioral health support, building on the mayor's Breaking the Cycle plan. The funding is part of Proposition A, a $300 million affordable housing bond passed in March 2024, designed to support extremely low-income households and those who have faced trauma. Lurie stated, “Today, we are taking action... to support San Francisco families,” underscoring the importance of stable housing for future generations.
District 1 Supervisor Connie Chan called for swift action to utilize the funding, emphasizing the urgency of providing shelter for families. Ivy Lee, Director of the Mayor's Office for Victims' Rights, noted that safe housing serves as a critical lifeline for survivors. The request for information (RFI) invites community partners to propose housing solutions, with responses due by July 17, 2025. This initiative represents a significant step toward long-term housing stability for vulnerable residents in San Francisco.
