Bay Area to host 2025 NWSL championship in November

San Francisco, CALocal News

The 2025 NWSL championship is set for November 22 at PayPal Park in San José, marking the fifth time the championship has been hosted on the West Coast. NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman emphasized the importance of the Bay Area's history in women's soccer as a reason for bringing the event to the region. Tickets will go on sale in August, with CBS airing the game live and additional events planned, including a Fan Fest and the 2025 NWSL Skills Challenge. The playoffs will kick off on November 7, leading into the championship. Bay FC, the region's first professional women's sports team in over a decade, made its debut last year and reached the playoffs in its inaugural season.

Currently, Bay FC holds a record of four wins, five losses, and three draws, ranking ninth out of 15 teams in the NWSL. However, the club faces scrutiny due to an investigation regarding a "toxic" work environment. The championship adds to the Bay Area's growing list of major sporting events, following the announcement of the 2026 Super Bowl at Levi's Stadium.
