Waymo grows Bay Area and LA service zones

San Francisco, CALocal News

Waymo's recent expansion of its robotaxi service highlights the growing confidence in self-driving technology across California. Starting Tuesday, riders in South Bay cities, including Brisbane and South San Francisco, can hail driverless rides via the Waymo One app. The service area in Los Angeles has also expanded, now covering over 120 square miles, including popular neighborhoods like Echo Park and Silver Lake. This announcement follows a temporary halt in San Francisco service due to protests. Waymo's spokesperson, Chris Bonelli, noted the company averages 250,000 weekly trips across four markets, a significant increase from last year.

Furthermore, Waymo plans to introduce its service in Miami, Washington, D. C. , and Atlanta while testing autonomous rides in other cities. The company has also mapped roadways around San Francisco International Airport, indicating future service plans. Additionally, Waymo is testing autonomous freeway rides in the Bay Area with employees.
