The San Francisco Police Department is investigating a garage fire set late Tuesday night at 21st and Shotwell streets, allegedly by a group of unhoused individuals. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, which caused minor damage and did not result in injuries. The building's owner reported a history of conflicts with the group, citing prior vandalism incidents, including cut internet cables. One tenant, concerned about smoke damage, plans to secure hotel accommodations for his family. Residents have previously sued the city over crime and street conditions, reflecting ongoing tensions in the neighborhood.

The police acknowledged the challenges they face in the Mission District, balancing multiple urgent incidents. Lt. Mariano Elias noted that two arson investigators were dispatched to the scene. Local frustrations with crime and safety have intensified as residents seek more effective police responses.
