Harper Steele takes center stage at SF Pride
Harper Steele will serve as the grand marshal for the 2025 San Francisco Pride parade, scheduled for June 29. The Los Angeles-based trans comedy writer aims to highlight LGBTQ+ resilience amid a surge in anti-trans legislation across the nation. Steele has strong ties to the Bay Area, noting her first visit in her 20s and her fondness for local record shops. After transitioning at age 59, she became more vocal about her identity, reflecting on the challenges many trans individuals face. Her documentary, "Will & Harper," chronicles a road trip with Will Ferrell and emphasizes the importance of using her platform for advocacy.
Steele advocates for a future where trans youth grow up without shame, expressing hope for a cultural shift. She plans to participate in the SF Trans March on June 27, further demonstrating her commitment to the community. This year's Pride event, which Steele calls "the mother of Pride parades," promises to be a significant celebration of LGBTQ+ identity and resilience.
