Fisherman's Wharf to get 10 million revamp to boost tourism

San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf will receive a significant $10 million investment aimed at revitalizing the waterfront and enhancing its tourist appeal. The area, which draws approximately 12 million visitors annually, has faced challenges in recovering from the pandemic, including the permanent closure of restaurants and a decline in tourism. Funded by the Port of San Francisco, the redevelopment plan includes environmental upgrades, a new public plaza to replace the former Alioto's Restaurant site, and redesigning the Inner Lagoon. Planning director David Beaupre highlighted the necessity of maintaining tourism, stating this project represents the largest investment in the wharf in recent years. Additional improvements will focus on enhancing flood protection and resilience against sea-level rise.

The Port has already made strides over the past five years, including building a floating dock and signing new restaurant leases. The first phase of the project will commence this fall, with the hope of completing the full redevelopment by 2033. This initiative marks a crucial step in revitalizing one of San Francisco's most iconic destinations.
