By 8:38 a. m. , crews were actively clearing debris, significantly enhancing the street's appearance. The fire, resulting from someone setting skis alight, caused damage to the elevator framing, as reported by BART foreworker Willie Ng.

Nearby, a vendor sold eggs for $4 a carton, indicating ongoing commercial activity despite the chaos. Fredisha, a homeless resident, contributed to the cleanup, stating, “It’s just a mess, and someone has to clean it up. ” This incident highlights the persistent challenges faced by urban communities regarding cleanliness and safety.
