Micro Center returns to Bay Area with DIY tech wonderland
Micro Center officially reopened its Santa Clara store, returning to the Bay Area after a 12-year hiatus. The soft launch attracted hundreds of customers, eager to experience the extensive inventory of over 20,000 tech items. Designed with local tech enthusiasts in mind, the store features customizable PC builds, 3D printers, and essential components for everyday tasks. Dan Ackerman, Micro Center's editor-in-chief, highlighted the demand for hands-on experiences and the sense of community the store fosters. Customers can engage with tech specialists at the 'Build Your Own' desk and enjoy a unique 3D printing filament vending machine.
The store also plans to introduce hardware capable of supporting local AI applications, enhancing user independence from centralized servers. This reopening is particularly significant as it fills the void left by Fry's Electronics' closure in 2021. The Bay Area's tech community has shown enthusiasm for the store's return, excited about the possibilities for creativity and innovation.
