S.F promised residents permanent housing in 2022. Now theyre being moved out.

San Francisco, CALocal News

Residents of the Vantaggio Suites, a supportive housing site in San Francisco, face relocation due to upcoming repairs scheduled for October. Ryan Palmer and others express dismay after being promised permanent housing when they moved in two years ago. The city's notice requires them to vacate between May and September, stirring fears about the alternative housing at the Granada Hotel, known for neglect and pest issues. Although Five Keys, the managing nonprofit, assures that no permanent displacement will occur, residents feel pressured to accept placements quickly to avoid being sent to shelters. The city had been aware of the necessary repairs since 2022 but only recently notified residents.

A community meeting held by a relocation consultant failed to clarify the situation, leaving many confused. Built in 1930, Vantaggio Suites has 112 units, with $9. 1 million in urgent repairs identified in 2021. The city now seeks $18 million in state funding to address these issues, which had been delayed since its acquisition of the site.
