South San Francisco Police Fatally Shoot Man With Replica Firearm
A man in his 40s died after being shot by South San Francisco police on Wednesday evening. The incident began around 7 PM at Oyster Point Marina, where the man was reportedly shouting obscenities and trying to break into a restroom with a metal object. When officers approached, he fled with what appeared to be a firearm, triggering a foot pursuit. The police stated that less-lethal options were attempted but failed, and the suspect subsequently pointed the replica firearm at officers, prompting them to return fire. Medical personnel declared him dead at the scene, and the officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with department protocol.
The California Attorney General’s office is now investigating the shooting, as required by state law. This marks the second fatal officer-involved shooting in South San Francisco within just over two weeks, following the death of Brian Joseph Montana, 60, who was shot after allegedly firing on police. The repeated incidents raise concerns about police engagement protocols and the use of lethal force.
