Academy of Art University students unveil new mural to honor SF Fire Department
A new 13-foot mural honoring San Francisco's emergency medical services was unveiled at the city's fire headquarters, created by students from the Academy of Art University. The mural showcases a fire truck alongside the Golden Gate Bridge, rich in color and detail, representing community support for EMS workers. Instructor David Burke noted that the project provided students with valuable experience in client collaboration. Zoe Arnold, the lead artist, aimed to highlight the "helping hands" of EMS workers, expressing the reciprocal relationship between them and the community. Funding came from multiple firefighter associations, reinforcing the mural's purpose to honor emergency responders' legacy.
The mural took several months to complete, involving multiple design revisions before the final version was selected. Its unveiling coincided with EMS Week, which starts on May 19, celebrating the contributions of EMTs and paramedics nationwide. This community art project serves as a lasting tribute to those who serve in emergency medical roles.
