New SFPD officer arrested for DUI following car crash injuring 4 others, authorities confirm

Ryan Kwong, a 28-year-old off-duty San Francisco police officer, faces DUI charges after causing a serious crash in the Sunset District early Saturday morning. The collision, which occurred just before 2 a. m. at Sunset Blvd. and Rivera St.

, injured four individuals, with one victim in critical condition. Initially, three people in one vehicle sustained injuries, while two in another vehicle experienced non-life-threatening injuries. San Francisco Fire Department later confirmed that two victims are now in critical condition. Chief Bill Scott issued a statement expressing sorrow for the victims and reaffirming that all officers are expected to uphold the law, even when off duty. Mayor Daniel Lurie and Supervisor Joel Engardio joined in condemning the actions that led to the crash, insisting on accountability for law enforcement officers.

The city closed Sunset Boulevard for cleanup, necessitating the removal of a toppled light pole. Community members are encouraged to provide any information regarding the incident to SFPD.
