Day 66 of the 16th Street Plaza crackdown An attempt at shelter on 15th Street

San Francisco, CALocal News

A homeless outreach team in San Francisco attempted to assist a man on 15th Street, who had been asked to leave the Gubbio Project due to unspecified behavior. The team offered shelter and snacks, but the man declined their help, prompting them to call a paramedic for further evaluation. Local resident Todd Eng expressed concerns about increased drug use in the area, noting that around 15 people used drugs near his home, particularly at 5:30 p. m. Residents attribute this rise in homelessness and drug activity to city crackdowns in other neighborhoods.

While Mayor Daniel Lurie’s police mobile command unit has improved conditions at the 16th Street BART Plaza, it has pushed some issues into nearby residential areas. Eng, a longtime resident, reported worsening conditions over the past six months. The outreach team hopes to connect the man with additional support services following the paramedic's assessment. This situation highlights ongoing challenges in addressing homelessness and public safety in San Francisco.
