Trio of Baby Raccoons Requires Rescue From Wall at Chase Center
SF Animal Care and Control responded to a report of three baby raccoons trapped behind wall panels at the Chase Center on Sunday. Officers rescued the raccoons after one became stuck with only its head trapped. Lt. Steph Ryer and Officers Keefe and Borg successfully freed the animals, which were likely orphaned, and transported them to Yggdrasil Urban Wildlife Rescue for care. The agency emphasized the importance of sealing any gaps in exterior walls to prevent wildlife intrusions, particularly in urban areas like San Francisco.
This incident underscores the ongoing challenges of urban wildlife management as animals seek food and shelter in city environments. The raccoons may have been born in a den nearby and outgrew their ability to navigate the space. Authorities recommend that residents regularly inspect their properties for vulnerabilities. Keeping urban wildlife safe and ensuring the community remains secure are crucial for local residents.
