Day 63 of the 16th St. Plaza crackdown Those displaced havent moved far

San Francisco, CALocal News

Residents near 16th and Mission streets have reported an increase in homelessness and litter since Mayor Daniel Lurie's crackdown on drug use began two months ago. Local resident Sophie Wallace noted that the number of unhoused individuals has surged, with many unfamiliar faces populating her street. Despite submitting about 100 311 requests for cleanup, she feels the city should proactively maintain cleanliness. The 16th Street BART Plaza, however, appears cleaner than ever, with many people frequenting the area. Wallace argues that if the police enforce rules in the plaza, similar measures should apply to the surrounding neighborhoods.

Former Mission Station police captain Al Casciato believes that affordable housing projects will improve street conditions by increasing foot traffic and surveillance. Yet, Wallace insists the mayor must expand enforcement measures until adequate housing and treatment options are available. She emphasizes the urgency of addressing these issues for the well-being of the community.
