El Farolito Day might be coming to S.F. and its about time
San Francisco's Board of Supervisors officially commended El Farolito SC, recognizing the soccer team's significant impact on the community. The team, which features part-time players, has garnered respect by defeating professional sides and is led by Santiago López and his sister Irene. Supervisor Jackie Fielder called the team a source of pride for the Latino community and proposed making May 22 El Farolito Day. Founded in 1985 by their father, Salvador “Don Chava” López, the club won the U. S.
Open Cup in 1993 as Club Deportivo México. Currently, El Farolito remains unbeaten in the National Premier Soccer League's Golden Gate Conference. The team will soon compete in the National Champions Soccer League in New Hampshire. Santiago balances his roles at the taquería and as a soccer coach, emphasizing teamwork in both settings. If the Board approves the resolution, El Farolito's contributions to the city will gain further recognition.
