Man Dies After Running Into Water After Dog at Ocean Beach

San Francisco, CALocal News

A man died Thursday afternoon after entering the surf at Ocean Beach to rescue a dog. Witnesses saw him collapse shortly after running into the water around 2 PM. Two women on the beach managed to pull him to safety and called 911, but he later died from his injuries despite life-saving efforts by responders. Fortunately, the dog he attempted to save escaped the water uninjured. The San Francisco Fire Department has issued warnings about the dangers of rip currents and sneaker waves at Ocean Beach, especially during high surf.

"Call 911, don’t go in the water after a dog, don’t go in the water after a person," said Sukai Curtis-Contreras, a spokesperson for the department. This tragic incident highlights the risks associated with ocean rescues and the importance of safety measures. Local authorities continue to stress the need for caution in hazardous conditions at the beach.
