Outgoing SFPD Chief Bill Scott Already Has Next Gig, as LA Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Chief

San Francisco, CALocal News

SFPD Chief Bill Scott will leave his position to lead the newly established LA Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department. His resignation comes amid speculation that Mayor Daniel Lurie desired a leadership change in the SFPD. The new department will be instrumental in maintaining safety during the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Scott's administration achieved a historic low in homicides, which fell to a 64-year low during his tenure. He will assist the SFPD for six weeks to ensure a seamless transition to his successor.

LA Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins expressed excitement about Scott's leadership. This transition hints at a well-coordinated plan, with Lurie likely aware of Scott's departure for some time. The interim police chief, Paul Yep, was appointed by Lurie in January, suggesting preparation for the change in leadership.
