Shooting Inside Downtown Oakland Restaurant Leaves Two Injured

San Francisco, CALocal News

A shooting at Pierre Pierre, a Creole and Cajun restaurant in downtown Oakland, left two individuals injured on Friday night. Chef Cleashaun Hill confirmed that both victims, a man and a woman, were reported to be in stable condition after the incident. Hill described the moment of the shooting, detailing how he took control and called for police assistance. In response to the violence, he launched a GoFundMe campaign to support relocating the restaurant to a safer environment. Hill expressed his disappointment, stating the shooting undermined their goal of providing a safe space for the Black community.

Pierre Pierre, which opened in December 2023, specializes in upscale versions of traditional dishes and was intended as a gathering place. The incident raised urgent concerns about safety and the restaurant's viability in downtown Oakland, prompting discussions about community safety and business resilience. Hill emphasized that the act of violence not only caused physical harm but also threatened the future of their establishment.
