SFMTA failed to resolve claims of harassment, says key witness in Day 3 of trial

San Francisco, CALocal News

A key witness testified that the SFMTA failed to mediate harassment claims made by Elias Georgopoulos, a former parking enforcement officer who alleges he faced racial harassment from coworkers. Attorney Eduardo Roy stated that the city should have intervened, as Georgopoulos reported multiple instances of discrimination and harassment. James Lee, the former deputy director of SFMTA's parking division, confirmed that the agency instructed the parking enforcement division to provide conflict resolution services in March 2020. However, Georgopoulos claims that after filing complaints and expressing fears for his safety, no action was taken. He threatened legal action against SFMTA over the lack of accountability for coworkers who allegedly harassed him.

Georgopoulos described the work environment as hostile, stating that management failed to support him. The trial is a continuation after a mistrial occurred last month due to jury scheduling conflicts. This case highlights broader issues of workplace discrimination and the responsibilities of municipal agencies in handling such complaints.
