Around 11:15 p. m. , a speeding white Genesis sedan rear-ended a silver Toyota Corolla, triggering a chain reaction that involved two more vehicles. The driver of the Corolla sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at a local hospital; his identity has not been released.

Another person involved in the crash was hospitalized, but their condition and identity remain unclear. The California Highway Patrol initially considered drugs or alcohol as potential factors but later confirmed that impairment is not believed to be involved. The driver of the Genesis remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, aiding the ongoing investigation. The total number of individuals involved is still being determined as authorities gather information. All westbound lanes reopened shortly before 1 a.
