16th and Mission is patrolled by an alphabet soup of S.F. agencies. Why are things still so bad?
District 9 Supervisor Jackie Fielder called for patience and cooperation to combat drug use and crime near the 16th Street BART Plaza. Speaking to about 150 attendees, she highlighted the area as a major concern since taking office. Fielder, who commutes through the area daily, stated that addressing these issues requires a unified response from multiple city departments. Despite efforts from agencies like Public Works, which conducts daily cleaning operations, and the Department of Emergency Management's "Mission Street Team," residents report little progress. During the meeting, city officials detailed their strategies, yet locals expressed frustration over the ongoing problems.
BART board member Edward Wright proposed securing funding to renovate the plaza and improve conditions. The San Francisco Police Department has also increased its presence in the area, advocating for a command center to better coordinate responses. Local frustration persists, as residents feel that the situation remains largely unchanged.
