Mendocino County Sheriffs Deputy Accused of DUI and Hit-and-Run, Seemingly In Their Own Patrol Car

San Francisco, CALocal News

A Mendocino County sheriff's deputy is under investigation for DUI and hit-and-run after dashcam footage captured the officer driving intoxicated. The damage to the patrol car was discovered by a sergeant upon arrival at work, leading to an internal review. The footage revealed the deputy drove to a bar while off-duty, then struck a guardrail and left the scene without reporting the incident. Consequently, the investigation was handed over to the California Highway Patrol, as the sheriff's office is prohibited from investigating its own officers. The deputy, who has served on the force for three years, is currently on administrative leave, with their peace officer status suspended.

This situation highlights potential issues regarding oversight and the conduct of law enforcement personnel. Officials are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Sheriff's Office. The outcome of the investigation could impact departmental policies regarding officer behavior and accountability.
