60-Year-Old Man Shot By Police In South San Francisco Is Identified
A shootout in South San Francisco resulted in the death of 60-year-old Brian Joseph Montana on Monday, as police responded to his gunfire directed at a neighbor's home. The conflict reportedly stemmed from a disagreement concerning tree trimming that crossed property lines. Upon arrival in the Rancho Buri Buri neighborhood, officers quickly requested backup after encountering Montana shooting into an occupied residence. He then fired at police for approximately 25 minutes while taking cover behind a parked vehicle. The South San Francisco Police Department stated that two officers returned fire, although their identities have not yet been released.
One neighbor sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident, but it remains unclear if they were the same person Montana targeted. The department plans to release audio and video footage as part of its standard procedure after officer-involved shootings. Neighbor Cory David reflected on the tragedy, stating that Montana attempted to resolve the situation inappropriately.
