Bay Area Dance Week (BADW) launches on April 25 in Union Square, infusing the Mission with free dance events over ten days. The kickoff, themed “Dance (Our Own Party),” encourages community participation through accessible choreography by Dudley Flores. Following this, Vanessa Sanchez will lead a Percussive Movement workshop, focusing on diverse rhythms and cultural significance. Deborah Slater’s Ways Not to Drown Workshop invites artists to explore creativity through movement and vocalization. Aimee Rose’s Jamaican dancehall workshop will delve into the history and technique of this vibrant social dance.

BADW aligns with local celebrations like the San Francisco International Arts Festival and Carnaval San Francisco. Flores highlights the event's community focus, stating, "There’s just tons of dance in the Mission between now and Carnaval. " This month of dance promises to engage participants of all levels and backgrounds, fostering a spirit of inclusivity and creativity.
