SF City Attorney Sues More Tenderloin Stores for Being Gambling Dens, One Allegedly Selling Meth Over the Counter
San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu is intensifying efforts to combat illegal activities in the Tenderloin, filing lawsuits against four corner stores suspected of operating illegal gambling dens and selling drugs. Family Corner Discounts was found with six electronic gambling machines and over 50 grams of methamphetamine stored under a shelf. Nearby, US Smoke Shop was discovered with illegal cannabis products and gambling devices, prompting scrutiny over its promotion of “mushroom cereal bars” on social media. Chiu described these stores as “magnets for substantial illegal activity,” indicating a broader issue of crime in the area. The lawsuits aim to shut down these establishments for one year while imposing a hefty fine of $25,000 each.
Additionally, EZ Dollar Discount Store was found to be displaying stolen merchandise, further contributing to the legal actions. This crackdown underscores the urgent need for addressing public safety concerns in the Tenderloin neighborhood. The actions of Chiu’s office reflect a commitment to restoring order amidst rising crime rates.
