Now Mayor Lurie Is Proposing Five New Boozy Entertainment Zones In SF

San Francisco, CALocal News

Mayor Daniel Lurie has proposed five new entertainment zones in San Francisco, allowing bars and restaurants to sell to-go cocktails during street closures for events. This initiative aims to enhance nightlife and stimulate local businesses, following a similar bill passed by state Senator Scott Wiener earlier this year. Proposed locations include Valencia Street and Pier 39, which are expected to draw significant crowds during events. The proposal is backed by Supervisors Matt Dorsey, Jackie Fielder, and Danny Sauter, reflecting a collaborative effort to boost the local economy. However, some bar owners have expressed concerns about increased competition and financial strain on existing establishments.

The legislation will be introduced at the next Board of Supervisors meeting, with a typical approval process taking about two months. If passed, these entertainment zones could be operational by early June, providing a much-needed boost to nightlife. The newly proposed zones are distinct from other events like night markets, as open-container laws will only apply within designated boundaries.
