Chase scenes and skipping school The Last Black Man in San Francisco team starts a summer film camp
Joe Talbot and Jimmie Fails, the creative duo behind the acclaimed film "The Last Black Man in San Francisco," are launching a summer film workshop designed for teens aged 15 and older. Scheduled from June 16 to July 3, the workshop will offer immersive experiences in filmmaking taught by industry experts, including acting lessons from Fails and cinematography instruction from Adam Newport Berra. The program aims to create a collaborative environment, allowing students to find their creative partners and develop their skills. A guest judge from the independent studio A24 will assist in selecting student pitches to be transformed into short films, which will premiere at the Roxie Theater on July 20. Despite the tuition fee of $3,900, Talbot assures that financial aid will be available to ensure inclusivity.
He noted the enthusiastic response from applicants, many of whom expressed a desire to find collaborators. This initiative not only nurtures young talent but also seeks to combat the loss of artistic presence in San Francisco. Through this workshop, Talbot and Fails hope to inspire the next generation of filmmakers and foster lasting creative relationships.
